Mathematics
The EUSD is committed to providing rich, rigorous, hands-on learning opportunities in mathematics instruction. Our focus is on ensuring the balance of conceptual and procedural understanding. Every student can be successful in learning mathematics if they have access to engaging, discovery-based, and challenging mathematics instruction with high levels of support and differentiation that meets the needs of individual learners. Our goal is to support our students with hands-on instructional experiences based in problem-solving. Students develop mathematical thinking and mathematical habits of mind when they have opportunities to relate to the math problems and to express math concepts with a variety of representations – concrete, pictorial, and symbolic.
As an American educator and civil rights activist Bob Moses declared, “In today’s world, economic access and full citizenship depend crucially on math and science literacy.” The EUSD is committed to engaging our students in learning mathematics that is rigorous and exciting so that they are prepared for college and career.
